So, what do you think is the bitterest thing in the world? Well, obviously, the truth. But truths about life after IITs are not just bitter, they are deadly as well. Let’s take a look at those harrowing truths about life after IITs that haunt every strand of flesh of IITians. Bitter Truth 1 The life at IITs is entirely different from the life of the real world outside. It wreaks havoc on the very existence of every IITian who with passing time get attached to the inside life of an IIT. Trying to adjust to a different world outside is obviously like chewing on iron shells. You become a God of something that people don’t know about but, on the contrary, you, too, miss out on millions of small things that they are God of. Getting along becomes tough. Bitter Truth 2 You might have been the best in the campus. Step out of it once and you will know you are competing with many geniuses like yourself. You are no longer being appreciated for your unprecedented talent simply because yo

Why Entrance exams send parents into Excitement and Frustration ??

M Shanthi, a resident of Anna Nagar has already spent two sleepless nights as her son M Rajesh was to face a written examination for school admission in a government-aided school on Wednesday. Her anxiety would prevail for the next two days until the school administration announces the results. And all this anxiety is to gain admission for Class 1 in a prominent aided school in the city. Rajesh's parents have been desperate to get admission in that particular school since their elder son is already studying Class 6 there and it would be easier for them to arrange for transport. Like Shanthi, a large number of parents in the city are undergoing sleepless nights aiming for a school of their choice. Every year, LKG admission in reputed private and government-aided schools is a herculean task for the parents. With the admission season on, parents start struggling to get seats in schools of their choice and throng them. Many schools witness parents queuing up in the last few weeks

Villager who cracked IIT, returns home to coach talented poor

Born to a carpenter in a dusty village called Jobner in Rajasthan, this boy never thought he could crack IIT. Now that he has done that, electrical engineer Rajesh Jangid has decided to sell his metaphorical Ferrari and become a teacher in his village. His dream; to have more IITians in his homeland. Jangid, a Hindi medium student since childhood, has completed electrical engineering in IIT-Gandhinagar with good grades. And here lies the twist; instead of a high flying career as an IITian, Jangid has opted to go back to his village and open a coaching centre! "Along with classmate Sanjay Gill, we are setting up a centre for talented but poor students in my village. We will start with improving their language skills and prepare them for IIT," he explained. Jangid's father, a daily wage worker since 18, has been earning just about Rs 8000 since years now. Jangid studied in a government school in village Kodi, and secured 89% in class 8. That ensured a place in a better sch

China offers college entrance exam in Braille

Image
Chinese students will be able to sit for the college entrance exam in Braille, the ministry of education has announced. Human Rights Watch described this week’s directive as an important breakthrough after years of campaigning by disability rights advocates in China, where educational and employment discrimination are rife. While a few blind students have studied at university, the vast majority have been effectively barred from higher education because there was no provision for them. While all children are in theory entitled to the same education, parents and campaigners say there is scant means for redress when institutions refuse to enrol students with disabilities or give them the support they need. According to Human Rights Watch, 28 per cent of children with disabilities are not receiving even a basic education. “Making exams accessible to the blind would help to minimise discrimination against and maximise respect for people with disabilities in China,” said Sop

NIT Rourkela centre in Bhubaneswar

National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela, will soon have an extension centre in the city for the institute's non-classroom activities. The state government has decided to allot a one-acre plot for the proposed building at Chandrasekhapur at a nominal ground rent of Rs 300 per year. NIT has to complete construction on the centre within three years, a state government order issued on April 24 said. Confirming the institute's plan for the city, NIT director Sunil Sarangi said Bhubaneswar being well-connected by air, rail and road with other parts of the country, a centre in the state capital would help NIT undertake several activities through the extension campus here. The institute will formalize its exact construction plan after meeting the statutory requirements in phases, he said. Sarangi said NIT has been conducting numerous short-term courses for teachers of engineering colleges. Since a substantial number of the colleges are concentrated in and around Bhubaneswar,

Around 1,100 engineering aspirants from around the country challenged the answer key of the Joint Entrance Exam (Main) question papers uploaded online by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Monday evening. While students claimed they were given less than 24 hours for the review, which was insufficient, the board said it was just an additional facility offered for the first time. The board released the answer key around 8pm on Monday, though it was supposed to put it up on the JEE (Main) website at 2pm. Students were supposed to get around 27 hours to study the key, but got six hours less. Only 1,106 students challenged the key till 5pm on Tuesday. "We do not know if the board will accept these challenges. Even if they do, there is hardly any time left for them to consider them," said an engineering aspirant from Andheri. Quality and not Marks matter for Parents and Students in CBSE

K Anitha, student of a private CBSE school from K K Nagar is aware that scoring higher marks in CBSE pattern is not easy. Compared to the state board syllabus scoring higher marks is difficult in CBSE. However, she chose CBSE since she wants to gain knowledge more than marks. Parents who support CBSE pattern say that it offers more than what textbooks offer. They chose CBSE over the state syllabus despite knowing the fact that it would not help their wards get admissions in state-run institutions, where marks play a vital role. "More than marks, knowledge matters more. 'Samacheer' syllabus pattern would help students score more marks. It would help them obtain a seat in state institutions. However, when you go for central institutions and reputed private institutions, CBSE syllabus would help more as the students will have to face entrance examination," K Rajaram, a member of parent teacher association from Kamarajar Salai claimed.
