IIT Delhi, Mumbai among top 50 Asian institutes: QS

National University of Singapore tops the chart among 250 universities ranked by QS Asia Pacific University Rankings in 2014, followed by Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology and University of Hong Kong. From India, the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi and Mumbai were the only two institutions that made it among the top 50 in the Asia-Pacific region, at rank 38 and 41, respectively. Five other IITs feature in the top100, with Delhi University placed at the 81st position. Debutants Incidentally, Banaras Hindu University, Panjab, Manipal and Amity universities, Birla Institute of Technolgy and the Indian Institute of Information technology appear for the first time in the rankings by QS, a global rating agency for higher education institutions. “Sadly, Indian universities do not seem to consider international rankings important and many do not even attempt to consolidate and share in public domain the full and up-to-date information about their performance,” sa

How much You can get by Selling your IIT JEE RANK ??

Shubham Tulsiani says This is quite a common practice among institutes so I would like to address the trends too apart from the personal experiences and I'll also write on one aspect the question didn't explicitly ask  - offers  before  JEE Pre-JEE (class 12th) I had a couple of 'offers' - Some people from Akash Institute came over to my place to 'gift' me books to help me prepare for JEE. All I had to do was - guess what - yes, sign a form ! I was amazed at how insistent they were and despite me saying I didnt need the books and wouldn't sign,  they made me keep the books. They then visited / called me about 5 more times to get my signature (until I finally returned the unused books on their last visit and told my hostel guard to not allow them back). I later learnt that they had been giving these 'gifts' to some of my (well performing) batchmates in Bansal Classes too and unfortunately a lot of them had signed up too. I was also on

Kota: Swine Flu Claims First Life This Year

Swine flu claimed its first victim in Kota this year with the death of a 25-year-old man at a private hospital today, health officials said. Vinod Sen (25), teacher of a government school in Khatkad village in Bundi district, died of swine flu while undergoing treatment at a private hospital here, Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) of Kota Dr R N Yadav said. Mr Sen was admitted to the hospital on May 11 and tested positive for H1N1 virus on May 13, following which his treatment started, he said. Medical teams have been sent to Khatkad village following reports of his death and tamiflu tablets distributed in his neighbourhood and to family members, he said. Tamiflu is a medicine used to treat Swine flu. The medical officers have been asked to keep a watch over patients suffering from cough and cold in their respective areas, Mr Yadav said, adding that people have also been asked to consult a doctor in case of persistent cold and cough. Two swine flu testing centres are working her

Kota Topper Story: Shitikanth IIT JEE 2008 Topper

Image
I gave JEE in 2009 and used to hear about this "topper" guy from the 2nd floor of my hostel. Topper of A1. I didn't pay too much attention. Then one day after my dinner my friends asked me if I noticed who was sitting next to me during the meal. I said no. They said it was the same guy. I didn't care much there either. I saw him for the first time in a cricket field. The lean stick-figure boy who didn't speak much. He had a ball in his hand and a single electric pole was being used as the wicket. I was fielding. I saw him bowl and all my senses absorbed after that was the clattering sound of the ball on the pole. That's when I was introduced Sitikanth. And the stories began! Once during class, V K Bansal (THE BANSAL of Bansal Classes) told us a story of when 2 weeks before JEE Sitikanth came to him, dejected and confused. Saying he had nothing to do. Bansal Sir gave him the toughest integration problems he had, thinking this should be enough to keep him a

What makes IITs different from Other Colleges ??

Let me make it easier for you, muggle.  Admission to IIT is extremely selective, in that children who show magical ability will automatically gain a place through a process called the JEE, and squibs cannot attend the school as students (though they can work there in other roles). These magical schools are generally setup far away in the country side, hidden from the view from ordinary muggles, in places like Kharagpur or Roorkee, though some schools chose to be more accommodating. Each school has its own culture, tradition and history with the oldest being most respectable because of  the contributions of past students in creating magic in the entire fraternity. Lets create some magic now ! Let this guy be our average IITian Having little or no idea what his magic is worth, and having spent most of his life in a closet under the stairs in places like Kota, there is nothing that could make him happier than catching a train to an altogether different world.                       T
