In hostel, he was one of the most fun loving guys, he only used to do the assignments of mathematics (only because it was taught to us by the director of the coaching). Though I was not in his hostel but my closest friends were in his hostel and used to tell me all the stuff they did at night. Late night chats, discussion about random things (which had no relation with JEE at all). There was a time when all feared Nagpal and used to say "Nagpal is gonna come and he is going to spoil our full night." That guy was much different from all other people I have ever met. <b>He got an AIR 190 only because we weren't taught inorganic chemistry,</b>else he would have got much better rank than this. <b>He is AIR190 in JEEAdv 2014, AIR190(State rank 2) in JEEMain 2014, BITSAT score-398, CBSE 12th %- 97.6.</b></li>

Handsome looking guy who loved girls, as any other ordinary guy. He used to roam around the girls hostel of area. Most of the weekends we used to go to US Pizza (at that time they used to serve unlimited pizza for 150 bucks per person), we used to play cards all day long, still he managed to get very good marks. He was excellent in Maths, he used to be at the top in maths in most of his institutes tests.<b><i> The only reason he didn't join IIT at the first attempt was because he got 78% in CBSE (< the cutoff of CBSE for JEEAdv) , in the second attempt he got 96%. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This person was really a source of motivation for all of us. Did not join any coaching in 11th-12th, got AIEEE rank ~57k. Came to Kota as a repeater and got the AIR 402. The way he used to solve the question was totally different. We all made notes for solving Irodov and he used to solve them on the book itself, all the equations in mind, only the calculations on paper.</li>
<li style="color: #333333; font-family: georgia, times, 'times new roman', serif; font-size: 15px; left: 2em; line-height: 21px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; position: relative;"><b>Mohit Chaudhary (AIR 542)- </b>Did not get selected in JEE 2012, and at the second attempt he was AIR 542, now you can guess how intelligent he was.</li>

He was known in Vibrant by his nick name "Chhota Sardar" given by NA sir. Still NA sir gives his examples in Vibrant :p . His initial batch in Vibrant was P10, but within 3 shuffling's he reached P1 and continued in that till end.<div class="qtext_para" style="padding: 0px;">
One of the most craziest thing about him was, he used to solve questions on room walls (because of which he got in fight with hostel owner and guess what; he still won that argument ;) ). He was hard working but lazy enough that he solves a complete DPP lying on bed and using the wall next to him as his rough notebook. Sometimes, he used to try DPP's of topics which were not even discussed in class. The result of his hard work: secured 140 AIR and got a seat in IIT Kanpur (CSE).</div>

<b>SIDDARTHA(311 marks in JEE-MAINS)- </b>Moreover, beside the class I used be in i.e. TX02, <b>STAR BATCH </b>used to be in next, there I met a hell lot of intelligent minds of our country, Even now i dont remember the name of all the guys but i cant forget those 4 persons who used to be more precise then answer sheets and fast enough to beat the robotic system to solve the answers, I still the remember eve before IIT-JEE exam, Amay,Chitrang,Govind and Kaushal was walking infront of me, suddenly AANA sir (the maths giant of kota) said to all of them "<b>kyu hero padhna ni h ab, kal exam h" </b>and the answer was in unison "<b>Sir single digit rank hi aayegi, chinta mat kro" </b>and i was all like <b>WTF, THIS IS CALLED SELF-CONFIDENCE,</b>but deep inside somewhere I knew that the fruit of their hard-work is now ripping, the effort they had putted, all the sleepless nights are now going to make that day a bit more brighter, all those left friends are now going to be fan as what i am bragging about them here, even I just have talked some countable phrases to them.</div>

The son of a paediatrician, he went to a school built in the memory of his grandfather in Kotkapura, a small Punjab town once known for its prolific cotton crop. He then attended coaching classes in Kota. When I was in kota I met <b>Amay Gupta</b> (AIR 8 ,jee 2014). As in most cases brilliance comes with a lot of hard work and mental strength and is the case with Amay. I was not at all his friend but many of my friends were his friend. So, my overall estimation depends on hearings from friends. He used to study for about <span style="font-style: italic;">10 hrs</span>. Per day except on weekends when he used some time for mental freshness. In class he used to solve problems(especially physics ) with such a smart and perfect way that no one matches him. He used to solve some typical questions of Irodov with about 3-4 methods.</div>

<div class="qtext_para" style="color: #333333; font-family: Georgia, Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Kota aka the suicide capital of India has experienced 57 suicides until this June 2016. Few of the many reasons may be:</div>
<ul style="color: #333333; font-family: Georgia, Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21px; margin: 0px 2em 1em 0px; padding: 0px;">
<li style="left: 2em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px 0px 0.7em; position: relative;">Inability to cope up with the rigorous study schedules which leaves no time for students to themselves.</li>
<li style="left: 2em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px 0px 0.7em; position: relative;">A brutal method of segregation of weak or average students from the “ deserving “ crowd.</li>
<li style="left: 2em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; position: relative;">The most common, expectations of parents and the fear of letting them down.</li>
<li style="left: 2em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; position: relative;">Most students are forced by their parents and their expectations into a profession they are not really made for, into the hyper-competetive race for making into the prestigious IIT’s and AIIMS</li>
<li style="left: 2em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; position: relative;">Parents must stop imposing their dreams on their children</li>
<li style="left: 2em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; position: relative;">Prime reason for suicide from my point of view is not the fear of failure but young students are really unaware of the opportunity they have in future</li>
<li style="left: 2em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; position: relative;">Pressure is also there in IAS, IES exam but people do not commit suicide because they become so mature to think that is not the correct way of giving up. But at the age of 13-17 we do not have that maturity.</li>

Kota alone cannot be blamed for the student suicides. It is the general environment, where a few institutions are put up in a pedestal by the society. Most students are forced by their parents and their expectations into a profession they are not really made for, into the hyper-competetive race for making into the prestigious IIT’s and AIIMS.</div>
<div class="qtext_para" style="color: #333333; font-family: Georgia, Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21px; padding: 0px;">
It is important for parents and students both to realise that choosing a profession is an individuals choice based on interest and skills. Parents must stop imposing their dreams on their children. The immense family pressure builds up stress in the minds of students often leading them to take drastic steps. Also, considering your child as symbol for personal status in the society by means of comparison is wrong. IIT’s and AIIMS are not the end of the world. There is life beyond it.</div>

<span style="color: #333333; font-family: arial; font-size: 16px; line-height: 22px;">For 16-year-old Himanshu, a regular day begins at 6 am as he attends coaching classes, school, remedial lessons in the afternoon, finally ending with yet another round of coaching in the evening. It's usually 8 pm by this time.</span><br />

<span style="color: #333333; font-family: arial; font-size: 16px; line-height: 22px;">Staying in a private hostel in Rajasthan's Kota town, away from family, the teen from Indore in Madhya Pradesh is in his last year in high school and is preparing for the tough entrance examination for the premier Indian Institutes of Technology. By now, Himanshu is accustomed to the gruelling routine.</span><br />

In August, Yogesh Johre, just a year older than Himanshu, set himself on fire and jumped from his hostel building in Kota. Police say that stress related to exams could have led to the teen committing suicide. In July, 20-year-old Avinash hanged himself in his hostel room.<br />
<br style="box-sizing: border-box;" />
The tragic stories resonate with many students in Kota which, in the last decade, has emerged as a coaching hub for those preparing for entrance examinations for top engineering and medical colleges. For a small city, situated 200 kilometres from the state capital Jaipur, the suicides have, of late, appeared on front pages of newspapers.<br />
<br style="box-sizing: border-box;" />
But in the streets of Kota, these tragic stories get lost as bright, colourful billboards flash the success stories of a few.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: 16px; line-height: 22px; text-align: start;">The disturbing number of student suicides, though, are now difficult to ignore. Private coaching institutes say they have counsellors for students and are working on a 24-hour-helpline for students.</span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: 16px; line-height: 22px; text-align: start;">"Sometimes children feel lonely and depressed and parents don't always help. There should be a helpline on which children can call. We are trying to do this in partnership with the government," says Naveen Maheshwari , director of Allen Institute, a famous coaching centre in Kota.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="_5rgt" data-gt="{"tn":"*s"}" style="margin: 8px 0px; padding: 0px 10px; position: relative;">
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 6px; padding: 0px;">
1) To begin with, this is what they cost us</div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 6px; padding: 0px;">
While it takes over Rs 3.4 lakh to educate an IITian per year, the student pays only Rs 90,000 per year. The rest is borne by the government. That is close to Rs 2.5 lakh per student per year, which is being paid by the tax payer. If one extrapolates this to all the 39,540 students in the Indian Institute of Technologies, the cost borne by the tax payer on educating IITians extends to 988.5 crore annually.</div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 6px; padding: 0px;">
According to budget estimates, Rs 1703.85 crore is to be allocated to the IITs for 2015-'16.</div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 6px; padding: 0px;">
2) What do we get in return for the Rs 1,700 crore we spend on them?</div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 6px; padding: 0px;">
Inspite of producing 9,885 world-class engineers in computer science, electrical, electronic, chemical, mechanical, production fields every year...</div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 6px; padding: 0px;">
a) The Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle, though successful with the Russian Cryogenic Engine, has time and again failed with the indigenous cryogenic engine. We have succeeded only once with our indigenous cryogenic rocket.</div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 6px; padding: 0px;">
b) Indigenous submarines are still a distant dream because of the technological complexity in building them. Though many projects are coming up in our own shipyards, they are happening because we are merely manufacturing them in India with foreign technology.</div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 6px; padding: 0px;">
c) The indigenous Indian Small Arms System rifles for our army, developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation, have always been reported as problematic, and we import assault rifles from Israel.</div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 6px; padding: 0px;">
Why could our world-class engineers, who are educated with tax payers' money, not have built them?</div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 6px; padding: 0px;">
3) This is what our top IITians gave a miss</div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 6px; padding: 0px;">
A Right to Information application that was filed recently has shown that less than 2% of engineers at the Indian Space Research Organisation are from IITs and the National Institutes of Technology. Our best space programme doesn't get our best engineers every year.</div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 6px; padding: 0px;">
The army doesn't get engineers and officers from the IITs. Between 1986 and 2006, not a single IITian has joined the Indian army.</div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 6px; padding: 0px;">
The DRDO has a shortage of more than 2,700 scientists, and it is stretched and overworked, but our world-class engineers don't find it challenging.</div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 6px; padding: 0px;">
4) If an IITian wants to run an online shop, then why do I, a taxpayer, have to pay for his chemical engineering degree?</div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 6px; padding: 0px;">
Going by 2013 figures, Flipkart, the online mega-store, recruited seven students from IIT Madras in 2013.</div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 6px; padding: 0px;">
One can understand the logic behind Flipkart hiring a computer science engineer. But six of the hires had studied aerospace, chemical, metallurgy, bio-technology and engineering physics. What specialist knowledge will they bring to Flipkart?</div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 6px; padding: 0px;">
These students do not have any interest in what they learnt in their four-year undergraduate programme, and want to erase their history by moving to a different field.</div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 6px; padding: 0px;">
5) Why did I pay for Chetan Bhagat's mechanical engineering degree?</div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 6px; padding: 0px;">
I have nothing against Chetan Bhagat, but I do know that Indian taxpayers paid to make him a mechanical engineer. He has done everything but engineering.</div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 6px; padding: 0px;">
Another RTI filed with IIM Bangalore has revealed that out of the current batch of 406 students, 97 students are from IITs. Fifty-six of these are students with less than two years work experience.</div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 6px; padding: 0px;">
If all these engineers wanted to be was managers, why does the tax payer need to pay for their engineering education at the IITs?</div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 6px; padding: 0px;">
6) Get a loan, why seek a subsidy?</div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 6px; padding: 0px;">
All students from IITs can get collateral-free loans from nationalised banks for upto Rs 20 Lakh.</div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 6px; padding: 0px;">
And IITians are obviously so awesome that companies are eager to pay them crores of rupees.</div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 6px; padding: 0px;">
Then why should a world-class engineer who makes crores of rupees and adds no value to India be given a subsidised education at the IITs? Can't they get educated with a bank loan of their own and repay it after getting their huge salaries?</div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 6px; padding: 0px;">
7) Remittances help forex? Nope, not really.</div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 6px; padding: 0px;">
Whenever there is a debate on brain drain from the IITs, the remittances issue pops up. Many believe that IITians who go abroad send back remittances and contribute to foreign exchange reserves. However, it is a pittance for India.</div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 6px; padding: 0px;">
A report in the Economic Times shows that out of the total remittances of $70 billion to India, the remittances from IITians who go to developed countries is much lower than the remittances from the Middle East to the state of Kerala.</div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 6px; padding: 0px;">
Most of the Malayalis in the Gulf are blue-collar workers, not IIT engineers.</div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 6px; padding: 0px;">
So, why should the common man subsidise an IITian's college fees</div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 6px; padding: 0px;">
8) We pay to import things IITians refuse to build for us:</div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 6px; padding: 0px;">
9) So, why should the common man subsidise an IITian's college fee?</div>
<div style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">
It might provoke angry debates but truth can't be reversed <i class="img sp_PtfclLh_PXm sx_fff81f" style="-webkit-user-select: none; background-image: url(https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/rsrc.php/v2/yZ/r/SziYKfKJIaI.png); background-position: 0px -126px; background-repeat: no-repeat; background-size: 18px 198px; border: 0px; display: inline-block; height: 16px; vertical-align: top; width: 16px;"><u style="height: 0px; overflow: hidden; position: absolute; width: 0px;"></u></i></div>

<br /><br /> Rudraskh, son of a bank manager Punit Handa, was abducted
yesterday from a park here where he was playing with his friends, they
said.
<br /><br /> "The body was spotted in Nanta canal in Bundi's Talera police
station area by a passerby in the morning following which the body was
taken out and postmortem was conducted by a medical board," Additional
SP, Kota, Rajan Dushyant told PTI.
<br /><br /> Station House Officer (SHO) of Jhawar Nagar police station
Haricharan Meena said the boy's hands were tied and there was no injury
mark.
<br /><br /> "Exact reason of the death will be clear once the postmortem report comes," he said.
<br /><br /> According to police, the kidnapper had demanded a ransom of Rs 2
crore and threatened to kill the boy if his father informed police or
did not arrange the money.
<br /><br /> Following the report of abduction, an alert was sounded at all
check points and footages from CCTV cameras installed at the private
institutes around the park have been investigated to trace the

AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal’s daughter Harshita has decided
to make her foray into politics by joining the party’s student wing the
Chhaatra Yuva Sangharsha Samiti (CYSS), which was launched today.
<br />
<br />
The daughter of the former Delhi Chief Minister will launch and
expand CYSS in IIT Delhi, where she is currently pursuing her
graduation. The youth wing, which was launched today, will have its
presence in 50 colleges in the national capital, apart from Delhi, Jamia
Milia and Jawaharlal Nehru universities.<br />
<br />
There were questions on whether Harshita would join the CYSS to which
an announcement was made here at Ghalib auditorium that she would
expand the student’s wing in IIT Delhi. Harshita scored 96 per cent in
the board exams and cleared the JEE exam to get into IIT Delhi.<br />
<br />
Arvind Kejriwal himself is an engineering graduate from IIT
Kharagpur. Besides, he even cleared the Indian Revenue Service (IRS)
Exam before leaving the civil services to join social service and later
politics.</div>

Isro may be making great strides in space, but when it comes to
attracting graduates from premier institutes like IIT, it has a long way
to go. Details gathered through an RTI application show that only 2%
employees of Indian Space Research Institute (Isro) are graduates from
IITs or NITs.<br /> <br /> With satellite launches and interplanetary
exploration increasingly becoming as commercial as scientific, Isro will
need products of premier institutes. "But this is not a trend that
affects only Isro," says V Adimurthy, senior advisor of interplanetary
mission at Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram. Other
sectors like roadways and railways too don't attract them," says the
IIT-Kanpur alumnus.<br /> <br /> Moreover, Isro's centralized recruitment
system doesn't differentiate between an IIT graduate and one from
another engineering college. "We look for strength in fundamentals,
wherever the person is from. It is essential to have people from
different institutions."<br />
<br /> <br />
Isro chairman K Radhakrishnan sees a silver lining in Isro's Indian
Institute of Space Science and Technology (IISST), Thiruvananthapuram.
Since its inauguration in 2007, the institute has been getting toppers
as applicants. "We have been getting some brilliant students who I am
sure would go on to become big scientists in Isro," says Radhakrishnan.<br /> <br /> <img class="gwt-Image" src="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/photo/43458359.cms" style="font-size: 13.63636302948px;" /><br /> <br />
But given the trickle of IITians and NITians, academics feel Isro
should collaborate with educational institutions to initiate and attract
the best of talent from other campuses.<br /> <br /> <img class="gwt-Image" src="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/photo/43464263.cms" style="font-size: 13.63636302948px;" /><br /> <br />
"Collaborative research with colleges other than IITs and NITs have
deepened engagement with students and made students aspire for a
nationalist career at ISRO," says Vaidhyasubramaniam S, dean, planning
and development, SASTRA University. Pramod Prasad, a 2008 electronics
and communication graduate from SASTRA was a part of Mars Orbiter
Mission.<br /> <br /> <img class="gwt-Image" src="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/photo/43459099.cms" style="font-size: 13.63636302948px;" /><br /> <em>Photo via Isro's Mars Orbiter Mission on Facebook</em><br /> <br />
Academics agree that most of the IITians and NITians look for
fat-paying jobs in software and technology companies. "Going abroad and
earning high are the priorities," says a senior academician of a deemed
university. But this could change, feels former Isro chairman U R Rao.<br /> <br />
"Achievements like the Mars Orbiter Mission would attract graduates to
Isro. You need passion to work in Isro. That's why people who join the
organisation seldom leave it for another job. </div>

This time a Solar Powered Cold Storage at ZERO Cost!" width="375" /></a> <br />
<br />
When it comes to making news, IITians are always in the race. And
needless to say that when it is about new inventions, they just steal
the show away. This time the news is about young IIT engineers from IIT
Kharagpur. They have come up with an affordable solution to the wastage
of agricultural produce by developing a unique solar- powered cold
storage system that works at almost zero running cost! Ain’t that a
surprise!
<br />
Established at the STEP (Science and Technology entrepreneurship
Park) of IIT Kharagpur by mechanical engineering student Vivek Pandey
and his team, this micro cold storage system has been successfully
tested in a Karnataka farmland already.<br />
Pandey told the media, “It is a first of its kind product developed
anywhere in the world as there are no running costs for the farmer. It
works on clean and sustainable technology for all 12 months of the year.
We have even applied for 4 patents for technologies used in the
product.”<br />
Underneath the banner of Ecofrost Technologies, these young graduates
are now ready to move out of the campus and then get on with setting up
a manufacturing and assembly unit in Pune next month.<br />
By making use of a uniquely designed thermal storage methodology,
which controls compartment cooling in tandem with regular cooling, the
micro cold storage helps increase the shelf life of agricultural produce
using solar panels of 2.5 KW – 3.5 KW.<br />
The young innovator added, “The power generated is sent directly on
to the compressor which can run at various speeds to adjust itself to
the demand of the cooling. Instead of batteries, this system has a
thermal storage unit which can store power for more than 36 hours to
provide power in case there is no sun during cloudy or rainy weather.”<br />
Existing solar- powered units run on batteries which need to be
replaced after 2- 3 years making the running cost very high for farmers.<br />
It is estimated that every year India loses around 30% of food production due to wastage and contamination.<br />
Pandey said, “We want to provide farm- level solar cold storages in
areas that lack access to grid connected electricity. So by increasing
the shelf life of agriculture produce, it’ll improve farmers’ source of
revenue by reducing losses and allowing better price realisation.”<br />
Meant for horticulture produce, the micro cold storage system has a
capacity of 5 metric tonnes and a price varying between Rs.5 – 6 lakh.<br />
The IITian said, “We have started getting orders and will start a
manufacturing and assembly unit in Pune next month. We’ve a target to
manufacture 20, 000 such cold storage units in the next 5 years.” He
further added that they are looking to raise around Rs.5 crore from
venture capitalists.<br />
Their promising innovation has won the 1st prize of Rs.10 lakh in the national university competition ‘DuPont: The Power of Shunya’.<br />
Besides selling directly to farmers, they’re also trying to create
village- level entrepreneurs who will act as nodal points for cold
storage in mandis where any farmer can store his produce at a fixed
cost.</div>

secretly called a select group of its students on the evening of May 2,
barely 12 hours before the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for
admission into the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), for `valuable
suggestions'. Nearly 100 students out of the total 700 reached and were
told that the tips should be learnt by rote. The next day, much to the
excitement of the students, 70 per cent of the physics and chemistry
questions appeared in the examination papers.<br />
The father of an
examinee told IIT authorities in New Delhi over the telephone about the
leak but he was rebuffed. ``Such doubts are normal and are expressed
every year by parents whose wards have not done well in their
examinations,'' said an IIT official.<br />
The same procedure was
adopted for the mathematics paper the next day and this time too the
coaching institute was bang on target. Most of the questions figured in
the actual paper, some with minor change of figures.<br />
But what made
IIT authorities realise that the question papers had been leaked to
some students was a fax from an unidentified examinee in Lucknow to the
Chairman, IIT-JEE in New Delhi, at least an hour before the mathematics
exam on May 4.<br />
In what was a laudable effort to salvage their
credibility, the IIT authorities cancelled the examination and decided
to conduct fresh tests in July. ``For us, saving our reputation as the
premier institute of technology in the country was more important than
causing discomfiture to thousands of students,'' said a professor of IIT
Kanpur.<br />
Some of the private coaching institutes in Lucknow
reportedly also put out `valuable suggestions' to their students on the
eve of the two-day Roorkee Engineering College entrance test on May 7.
Though giving `finer tips' to students in coaching institutes before
examinations is a routine practice, that the suggestions offered in the
institute appeared in the IIT entrance question papers made students
suspicious.<br />
It was the leak of all three papers -- mathematics,
physics and chemistry -- that led to the cancellation of JEE for the
first time. Those aspiring for an engineering seat in Roorkee feared
that their entrance test might meet the same fate as IIT-JEE.<br />
But
the IIT authorities in Kanpur were taken by surprise. ``It may have been
leaked from Patna and most probably, one of the many centre
superintendents might have done it,'' observed a senior professor at IIT
Kanpur. For the first time in its history, the academic calendar of IIT
will have to be adjusted as fresh examinations are likely to be held at
least two months later.<br />
Though rumours of the disclosure of
papers of the Roorkee Engineering College entrance test scheduled for
May 8 and 9 too kept circulating among students in Lucknow, the
authorities refused to cancel their test for want of concrete evidence.<br />
The
two incidents have put a question mark not only on the credibility and
fairness of entrance examinations to various engineering and medical
colleges in the country, but also on the role of mushrooming coaching
institutes, ready to go to any extent to make a fast buck.<br />
In
fact, this is not the first incident of leakage of question papers of
medical or engineering entrance examinations in Uttar Pradesh. There
have been stories of paper leakage of Combined Pre-Medical Tests (CPMT)
conducted by a State university for admission to seven medical colleges
in Uttar Pradesh almost every year for sometime.<br />
The CPMT had to
be cancelled and reconducted in 1991 after a similar incident, leading
to a six-month delay in the academic calendar of all State medical
colleges and hence a zero session too. An inquiry instituted by the
State Government into paper leakage failed to point the loopholes in the
system though the role of a chain of coaching institutes had come under
a cloud then too.<br />
Some other students had devised another method
of getting admission to the Jhansi Medical College, by forging admission
letters last year. Though 44 students were expelled from the college
after the fraud was detected, the Government inquiry has failed to find
the real culprits.<br />
The paper leak this year has obviously put
extra burden not only on the IIT authorities but on students too,
especially on those who had done well.<br />
``All the enthusiasm to
become an engineer is gone. I have known rigging of elections but
rigging of examinations is certainly a deplorable phenomenon,'' says
Ashish Bhattacharya, a student.<br />
Students feel that the competition
among coaching institutes is responsible for the leakage. ``The
students will obviously join the coaching institute which can ensure
their selection, irrespective of the methods adopted by it,'' says
Saurabh Gupta, an engineering student.<b> </b><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<h4>
<span class="postbody"><div style="text-align: left;">
<u><b>How it works</b></u></div>
</span></h4>
<span class="postbody"></span><br />
<b> </b>The
IIT-JEE papers are prepared by a group of IIT professors before being
sent for printing to a trusted printing press. IITs have no supervision
over printing of question papers. The printed papers are despatched to
various IITs accompanied by junior faculty members or other responsible
officers of the institute conducting the test.According to an IIT
professor, the papers are then despatched to 300-odd examination centres
by the IITs having jurisdiction over these centres barely 24 hours
before the test.<br />
But these are not accompanied by a faculty
member, a practice strictly followed during CPMT examinations after the
1991 paper leak.Thus the possible point of leakage of question papers is
either the printing press or the senior staff at any of the 300-odd
examination centres. The coaching institutes obviously target such
vulnerable spots since the stakes are very high and so is the money
involved in it.``Though utmost care is taken in selecting the printing
press and examination centres, no one can vouch for the integrity of
hundreds of individuals engaged in conducting the examinations,'' says a
former IIT director.With a CBI inquiry already in progress , he hoped
that faults in the system would be located and corrected. The
preliminary CBI probe has indicated that the Lucknow coaching institute
may have procured papers from either Patna or New Delhi.<b> </b><br />
<br />
<br />
<h4>
<span class="postbody"><div style="text-align: left;">
<u><b>The economics of coaching</b></u></div>
</span></h4>
<span class="postbody"></span><br />
1.The
coaching institutes charge students Rs 5,000 per question paper, making
approximately between Rs 12,000 and 5,000 per student for Physics,
Chemistry and Mathematics. An institute with an enrolment of 500-700
students earns between Rs 50 lakh and Rs 1 crore every year.<br />
2.
Some institutes guarantee selection of students in engineering or
medical colleges in UP, at a higher fee ofRs 50,000. If not selected
they return double the amount.<br />
3. It is not usually an expensive
deal for coaching institutes to spend between Rs 5-20 lakh to get the
`real' question papers. The success enhances the reputation of the
institute and students flock in greater number bringing more money.<br />
4.
There are certain coaching institutes in Lucknow, Allahabad and
Varanasi which have air-conditioned class rooms fitted with microphones.
Teachers of such institutes too have reportedly made a fortune in a
very short span of time, usually by escaping the notice of Income Tax
officials.<br />
5. The competition among coaching institutes can be
gauged from the fact that there are at least five institutes with
identical names, prefixed with `real' or `new' to the names.<br />

Recommended by the IIT Joint Admission Board (JAB) earlier this month, the changed JEE eligibility criteria will be a major relaxation for IIT aspirants from the CBSE board system and state boards which are seen as more generous with their marking system.As of now only students who are among the top 20 percentile in their board examinations and have cleared the JEE Main examination are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced. However, the JAB this month recommended that alternatively students who may have scored 75 per cent marks in their Class XII exams should also be seen as eligible for JEE Advanced. This will apply where the last cut-off for top 20 percentile is more than 75 per cent marks.<br />
<br />
So now a student of CBSE would be eligible for JEE ADVANCED if he secured 75 percent or more than it in Board Exams whereas the cutoff might be 84.3 percent.<br />
<br />
Several students from Andhra Pradesh could not make it to IITs last year as while some had scored over 90 per cent they still could not be among the top 20 percentile- the issue even went to court. Reason being that some school boards are more generous in their marking system than others inadvertently putting their students at a disadvantage when it came to JEE Advanced that has started relying on percentile based screening mechanisms. CBSE also faced similar problems. The JAB is of the view that a relaxation is necessary to ensure that all candidates are at equal advantage when appearing for JEE Advanced.<br />

Verma ?<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
<span href="https://www.quora.com/search?q=hc+verma#" id="__w2_xLy9MFW_toggle_link">I
did two courses in Physics during my first year PHY 102 (Mechanics) and
PHY 103 (Electromagnetic Theory) both of which were taught by Prof. <span class="matched_term">HC Verma</span> along with one other professor. <span class="matched_term">HC Verma</span>
took one half of each of these courses. Although the class size was
around 325, the experience was nice as he is a gem of a teacher.<br /><br />Before
even going to the first class,which happened to be in the middle of the
semester, all of us were too excited to go to the lecture so much so
that the lecture hall was jam packed on his first lecture with ~325
students, inspite of the fact that about half of our batch preferred not
attending the previous lectures of the course, as no attendance is
compulsory here. I was just lucky to get a seat in the 4th row in that
lecture. One thing I remember from that lecture was that someone clicked
a photograph from his phone with the Flash on and he commented ,
"Please switch the flash off before clicking.You should pay attention
here. I will be available at my office if you want to click more of
those." </span><span href="https://www.quora.com/search?q=hc+verma#" id="__w2_xLy9MFW_toggle_link"> </span><br />
<span href="https://www.quora.com/search?q=hc+verma#" id="__w2_xLy9MFW_toggle_link">As
far as his teaching was concerned, it was quite similar to the approach
taken in his book. But here in the lecture he used to bring small
models (and sometimes big ones like a big turntable or a bicycle rim)
and involve students in demonstrating certain concepts in mechanics
using those models. Also he tried to involve each and every student in
the ~200-300 student class in the concept as he used to roam around in
the lecture hall asking questions from students. His knowledge and depth
of understanding in Physics were reflected in his lectures. Still the
exam question papers he set were quite easy. Studying from him was a
different experience altogether, different from any other professor here
in Kanpur.</span><br />

“*tring**tring*”<br />
“So now your books are more interesting than me?”<br />
“Can’t even talk for 5minutes?”<br />
Sounds similar? Congrats, you are suffering from<br />
“Mi-gf-graine”, where “gf” is symbolic and silent.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.100marks.in/recess/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/image1.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-25" height="150" src="http://www.100marks.in/recess/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/image1-150x150.jpg" title="image1" width="150" /></a><br />
<br />
Now, assume this: Your JEE is the Titanic, you are the Captain, and your girlfriend is the Iceberg.<br />
<br />
So, Captain, its high time to know, how to steer, or else, Kaabbooommm! <em>Na Titanic rahega, na iceberg, aur na tu.</em><br />
<br />
Welcome to 100marks’ exclusive Rowing Classes.<br />
<br />
No no, I’m not taking you to the pacific, but the ocean, called life.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.100marks.in/recess/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/image2.jpg"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-26" height="150" src="http://www.100marks.in/recess/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/image2-150x150.jpg" title="image2" width="150" /></a><br />
<br />
There are two points you must remember, in today’s practical world, no matter what:<br />
1. You CANNOT stay happy, if you have a successful career, but failed relationships.<br />
2. You CANNOT stay happy, if you have a disappointing career, but successful relationships.<br />
Let’s analyze you now, you’ve a girlfriend and are preparing for JEE,
well, dude, you’ve put your legs in two different boats. Although, it’s
said that you can only piss in this situation, but we’ll tell you how
to sail.<br />
All you have to do is, realize the importance that your girlfriend and JEE hold in your life, without underestimating any.<br />
Once you do that, rest is a piece of cake. Try out the following:<br />
<ul>
<li>Do not, ever, shout at your girl, for “disturbing you”. You chose
her to be in your life, so you cannot just expect her to be invisible
whenever you want. #Respect.her</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Manage your studies and girlfriend efficiently, by allotting time to
both. Chat with her while solving numericals, you’ll surely get the
right answer.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>If both of you are budding engineers, then bingo! Study together, while practicing some self control.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Make your girl understand the pressure that you feel due to JEE,
share it with her, she, for sure, will understand and will give you
space enough to relieve the pressure.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Focus on your JEE as well, avoid chatting while understanding any
concepts, but do talk to her when you are done with the theorems n all.</li>
</ul>
‘Coz once you qualify JEE, you might forget it, but your girl won’t forget your behavior.<br />
<br />
Remember, when you are broken, you won’t lookout for your JEE score
card to sympathize you, but your girl, and other close relatives.
Similarly, when you’ll be happy, you, sure as hell, would not want your
score card to sit across you at KFC.<br />
Do not listen to people who claim “focus on your studies, love n all
are secondary, don’t get involved in these stuff” etc. This is shit in
its purest form.<br />
Fall in love, with your JEE, with your girl. Stay loyal to and passionate about both the relationships.<br />
Unlike Cameron’s Titanic, yours will now sail.<br />
You are sure to rise.</div>

Rajasthan’s Kota continues its winning streak in training students for
success in pre-engineering and pre-medical college entrance tests<br />
<br />
Getting into an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is harder than
admission to America’s Ivy League: each year more than a million
students take the entrance examination for a meagre 8,622 seats in the
16 IITs.<br />
<div class="articleBody">
It is equally difficult to get into country’s premier medical school:
All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi has only 72
undergraduate seats and more than 500,000 students vie for it. Of
course, there are more engineering and medical seats in the country, but
IITs and AIIMS Delhi remain the most sought after.</div>
<div class="articleBody">
Almost one in every three youths who make it to these premier technical
and medical schools are students from cram schools in Kota, a riverbank
town 256 kilometres south of Jaipur in the western Indian state of
Rajasthan. Kota’s success in these entrance exams has been stuff of
legend as the coaching business in this otherwise sleepy town enters its
25th year.</div>
Coaching here is now a phenomenal Rs20 billion (Dh1.2 billion)
industry. It is therefore hardly surprising that hoardings and
billboards claiming success in pre-engineering and pre-medical tests
line the Jhalawar Road towards the south of town.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDpB259_tEdjXuYlImeiQ9SB_DRBcVubtR0LIiLskodFn4gc7iMC60S6oRwsK2xsKqIHCZfh80Jg_cLnBHfkquGwtqzGxa0Jol2wC0K7A-TzGxb-uI6CKO9QSzii4orfHx0wHIicF89WJv/s1600/kota+days.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDpB259_tEdjXuYlImeiQ9SB_DRBcVubtR0LIiLskodFn4gc7iMC60S6oRwsK2xsKqIHCZfh80Jg_cLnBHfkquGwtqzGxa0Jol2wC0K7A-TzGxb-uI6CKO9QSzii4orfHx0wHIicF89WJv/s1600/kota+days.jpg" height="199" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="articleBody">
I am visiting Kota on the back of IIT and AIPMT (All India Pre-Medical
Test) results. I find local dailies replete with fullpage,
chest-thumping advertisements, on almost every alternate page.</div>
<div class="articleBody">
Allen Career Institute is boasting a rare first in the city’s history:
all India top rankers in both JEE Advanced, the entrance test for
admission to IITs, and AIPMT are Allen students. Resonance, another
coaching institute, as cram schools are locally referred to, is claiming
highest selections (in JEE Advanced) from any single institute in the
country: 4,105, including 1,916 from its Kota classrooms. People at
Career Point rattle off statistics from previous years to say they have
sent 8,400 students to IITs in 20 years of their existence.</div>
<div class="articleBody">
It is that time of the year when institutions indulge in public
displays of success. Photos of students with their ranks — all-India
ranks, state ranks and reserved categories-wise ranks — are all over the
print and outdoor publicity media. Top rankers are bandied around like
trophies. Obviously, they are magnets for new students.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwQQNeISPS7E24H6NFFdAixH18wxUWfJEVa_as4ul5mvl88449c-dt8Kcnpj_yFLea8mmuB4jcps8mdA5JUPdFVL1Kwh1Bs1XOGZFMXzoREuEB-ZWW0iJOBHQqRohj7jqISC-O9N_bJIUz/s1600/bansal+sir+joke.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwQQNeISPS7E24H6NFFdAixH18wxUWfJEVa_as4ul5mvl88449c-dt8Kcnpj_yFLea8mmuB4jcps8mdA5JUPdFVL1Kwh1Bs1XOGZFMXzoREuEB-ZWW0iJOBHQqRohj7jqISC-O9N_bJIUz/s1600/bansal+sir+joke.jpg" height="320" width="301" /></a></div>
</div>
<div class="articleBody">
This exercise does pay dividends: Allen had 59,320 classroom students
last year; this year it has already enrolled 65,000. The number of
aspirants in Kota has crossed 130,000 this year. In 2013, it was
110,000.</div>
<div class="articleBody">
Vinod Kumar Bansal, who pioneered this business, reminisces about how
the Kota coaching juggernaut rolled: “It was in the late 1980s that the
first lot of local lads began getting into the IITs. In 1986, Kota boy
Sanjeev Arora got the all-India first rank, and received a prize of
Rs100,000 from Brilliant Tutorials. This ignited locals’ interest in
IIT. Prior to that, Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) at
Pilani was Rajasthan’s first choice for technical education.”</div>
<div class="articleBody">
Bansal began offering private tuition in Mathematics to IIT aspirants
across the table in his dining room in his JK Colony residence after he
was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy and became wheelchair-bound. In
1988, he founded Bansal Classes — the first coaching institute in Kota.<br />
<br />
<div class="articleBody">
Around the same time, Rajesh Maheshwari, a polytechnic diploma holder,
started Allen Career Institute — named after his father L.N. Maheshwari —
at a rented place in Vallabhbari locality. “Ours was the first
institute offering coaching in all three subjects under one roof,” he
claims as he shows me around the Allen headquarters, called Sankalp, in
Indira Vihar area. Today, Allen is spread across nine hectares in ten
campuses.</div>
<div class="articleBody">
In 1993, Pramod Maheshwari, a Kota boy, graduated from IIT Delhi but
his mother didn’t allow him to go to the United States for higher
studies — in those days, he says, IIT was considered a gateway to
America. When he returned home in Kota, he didn’t find anything
worthwhile to do in the industrial centre which had fallen on hard
times. So he began teaching Physics at Bansal Classes. But very soon,
Pramod set up Career Point, his own venture, with 51 students in a tyre
godown — and became the first IITian in Kota to start a coaching school.</div>
<div class="articleBody">
A few years earlier, a boy from a remote village in Ramganj Mandi, a
municipality in Kota famous for limestone mining and coriander, cracked
the IIT entrance exam with the help of books he picked up from Rampura
market in Kota.</div>
<div class="articleBody">
R.K. Verma’s father worked as a mine labour and during vacations, Verma
joined him in the mines. He graduated from IIT Madras in 1994 and
returned to Kota to prepare for one of the most desirable jobs in India,
the Indian Administrative Services (IAS). When he couldn’t clear the
three-tier recruitment process, he joined Bansal Classes as a Physics
faculty, to fill in the gap left by Pramod Maheshwari. Two years after
Maheshwari, Verma became the second IITian to plunge into coaching in
1995.</div>
<div class="articleBody">
As the rate of Kota students selected for IITs rose, the city’s
reputation for success spread, and young hopefuls flocked to the city
from other parts of the country. Success of Bansal Classes and Career
Point inspired a host of other institutions. In 2001, Verma, along with
Lokesh Khandelwal, who went to IIT Kanpur before he briefly taught
Chemistry at Bansal Classes, founded Resonance. Seven more Bansal
teachers branched out in 2009 to start Vibrant Academy.</div>
<div class="articleBody">
In 25 years, Kota has produced about 150,000 engineers and more than
100,000 doctors. Bansal Classes prefers to boast only about the 16,000
IITians it has given.</div>
<div class="articleBody">
In the city with a population of one million, around 100,000 students
cram for these fiercely competitive tests. Over the years, Kota has come
of age. As the number of students rose, classrooms became hi-tech with
world-class public address systems, lapel microphones and LCD
projectors. Institutes diversified into coaching for the next best
colleges such as the national institutes of technology (NITs) and Indian
Institutes of Information Technologies (IIITs) for technical, and newer
AIIMS and state medical colleges.</div>
<div class="articleBody">
A Boom in coaching business spawned ancillaries such as private hostels
and mess. Houses added second and third floors to rent out to students.
New hostels came up. Eateries and tiffin centres began doing brisk
business. Cycle shops recorded surge in sales since most of the
students, especially boys, pedal to coaching institutes.</div>
<div class="articleBody">
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibQxdqBj5HLqbnvnA079Y1HlAmHBuYa-jSde-gQhqVQgCADuY5m9a7e7C7fSYzEsXBIsQMwt4ZLo05Sp8ZpXkAFxkIlsoN7FrI4Ptt5SqVle_V5ilRImQ-PR8okvAgIw_Q9ZOxK9iO4Sny/s1600/Harayana+happy+students.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibQxdqBj5HLqbnvnA079Y1HlAmHBuYa-jSde-gQhqVQgCADuY5m9a7e7C7fSYzEsXBIsQMwt4ZLo05Sp8ZpXkAFxkIlsoN7FrI4Ptt5SqVle_V5ilRImQ-PR8okvAgIw_Q9ZOxK9iO4Sny/s1600/Harayana+happy+students.jpg" height="199" width="320" /></a></div>
</div>
<div class="articleBody">
According to a rough estimate, there are about 2,500 hostels and paying
guest centres in the city where the cost is directly proportional to
distance from a coaching institute, but these days it is nothing less
than Rs3,000 per month. In certain areas such as Rajiv Gandhi Nagar,
some rooms cost as much as Rs20,000 a month. Of course, these are
fully-furnished and air-conditioned.</div>
<div class="articleBody">
Cost of cramming in Kota has gone up every year. Besides the course
fee, which is anything between Rs70,000 and Rs100,000 per year, and
expense on accommodation, parents pay through their nose to meet school
tuition fees and pocket expenses. The total cost comes to Rs250,000 to
Rs300,000 a year for each youngster.</div>
<div class="articleBody">
But cost is no deterrent. The success rate has increased aspiration
levels. “Dream sellers”, as one coaching owner likes to call himself,
exploit expectation for that elusive IIT or a medical seat.</div>
<div class="articleBody">
But why is Kota’s success rate so high? “Because of the atmosphere
here,” says Career Point founder Pramod Maheshwari. “Here a student
follows a rigorous regimen, attending three lectures of 90 minutes each
every day, solving daily practice problems and taking a test every third
week. The best part of this regular assessment and performance analysis
process is that it gives students an all India competition and helps
students know their true standing,” he adds.</div>
<div class="articleBody">
“Performance of students in these tests is compiled, analysed and
reviewed to help then know their strengths and weaknesses,” explains
Resonance managing director and CEO R.K. Verma. “Batches are
periodically reshuffled to keep students on their toes and foster a
competitive spirit. At the same time, the faculty is always under
pressure to generate new complex questions and revise course material
every year. Remember, we have to follow a result-oriented methodology,”
he adds as he gets ready to head into a class.</div>
<div class="articleBody">
Verma, like his mentor Bansal, still loves to teach at least six hours a
day though Pramod Maheshwari, also a Physics “guru”, gave up teaching a
few years back.</div>
<div class="articleBody">
“This regimen is Kota’s USP,” adds Manoj Sharma, Resonance
vice-president (Operations) and Verma’s childhood friend. “Here a
student is engaged at least 16 hours a day, attending lectures, revising
and solving complex multiple-choice problems.”</div>
<div class="articleBody">
Kartikeya Singh, a class XI student, who is enrolled into Career
Point’s two-year programme, agrees that a student in Kota is always
under pressure to perform. “But what’s wrong?” he asks. “My parents have
put their hard-earned money on me. Their expectation is justified.” His
father, a class IV employee in Bihar Government, has taken loans from
friends to fund Kartikeya’s coaching.</div>
<div class="articleBody">
In 2012, the government devised a new two-tier JEE system, according to
which JEE Main is to be used for admission to NITs, IIITs and other
centrally funded engineering schools, while students opting for IITs are
required to clear the JEE Advanced test. Both these levels take class
12 marks into consideration: for NITs, the merit list is prepared with
60 per cent of JEE Main score and 40 per cent of class 12 score, while
for JEE Advanced, a student has be to be in the top 20 percentile of
Board marks.</div>
<div class="articleBody">
It was due to this change in the examination system that institutes
added Board preparations to their curriculum. Now, besides the six-hour
JEE Advanced pattern and three-hour JEE Main pattern exams, students
also take three tests of two hours each, which are set up like Board
exams. “At the end of two years, a student has taken at least 30 tests,
including mock tests with full syllabus at the end of the course,”
Sharma says.</div>
<div class="articleBody">
Despite this strict schedule, students are losing focus, says Aanchal
Bansal, 23, who went to Bansal Classes before he made it to IIT
Kharagpur. “When I was here, there were no distractions such as
multiplexes and smartphones. There was nothing else to do than study —
unless you wanted to sleep all the time. But today there are Facebook
and WhatsApp to hook students,” he explains.</div>
<div class="articleBody">
Bansal has quit Rs8-million-per-annum job to turn entrepreneur. Aware
of the problems that students here face in term so food, he, along with
his Kharagpur batchmate Pankaj Sharma, started Mr Hot, a service that
provides customised food in disposable packets. In their sixth month
now, they are already selling 250 packets a day.</div>
<div class="articleBody">
Pankaj says Kota is gradually losing the blandness that was its selling
point. “Shopping malls and cinema complexes have come up all over the
city as economy grew,” says the 23-year-old who left his job with a
business analytic firm earning Rs6 million per annum to join Aanchal.</div>
<div class="articleBody">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCq5hyphenhyphenQ9b_CX6Iea2DqYuw0sal9YkFDY3Hhw4T7msAOOV-1M_1HRpQMqCr-AUHIX5RQfx6V-HVbsFkv3HebE531HpEntZc5jtyU__ZhzU-9NkUizN2mfL96nuMKlMOkcrpST9TRMl2jsnG/s1600/556268_465586136841914_2068577628_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCq5hyphenhyphenQ9b_CX6Iea2DqYuw0sal9YkFDY3Hhw4T7msAOOV-1M_1HRpQMqCr-AUHIX5RQfx6V-HVbsFkv3HebE531HpEntZc5jtyU__ZhzU-9NkUizN2mfL96nuMKlMOkcrpST9TRMl2jsnG/s1600/556268_465586136841914_2068577628_n.jpg" /></a>
Another factor that draws students to Kota is its experienced and
highly qualified faculty. Today there are around 1,100 teachers in Kota,
almost 400 of them IITians. Pramod Maheshwari says he went faculty
hunting to IIT campuses when they did their placements. “We picked up
the best brains and trained them,” he says. Resonance’s Verma agrees
institutions invest a lot in “creating” teachers, training them
rigorously for three-to-twelve months after they are picked up from IITs
or NITs.</div>
<div class="articleBody">
Now, it’s time for diversification as most institutions are branching
out into other segments. Career Point has a universe for KG to PhD. It
has opened Global Kids for pre-schooling, four schools for schooling,
two technical campuses in Rajsamand (Rajasthan) and Chandigarh and two
universities in Kota and Hamirpur (Himachal Pradesh), for higher
education. Similarly, Resonance has started Commerce and Law Program
Division for chartered accountancy and company secretary courses for
commerce students and coaching for national law schools/ universities.</div>
<div class="articleBody">
Allen, which has been a leader in pre-medical segment with eight of its
students in top 10 in AIPMT this year, diversified into pre-engineering
in 2008 and after 25 years of its existence, decided to venture out of
Kota when it opened centres in Jaipur, Chandigarh and Ahmedabad. All of
these have also started foundation courses for students of classes 6 to
10 to prepare them for National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) and
various national and international Olympiads.</div>
<div class="articleBody">
But Bansal Classes and Vibrant have stuck to their core: coaching for IITs.</div>
<div class="articleBody">
Allen, on the other hand, has set for itself a target of 200,000
students in its classrooms by the year 2020. Spelling out his vision,
founder director Rajesh Maheshwari says, “My target is to have
facilities for 50,000 students in all four corners of the city. At
present, the coaching industry is skewed towards the south of the city.
For developing Kota into an education tourism city, it is necessary to
develop in other three directions.” That could be a tall order but with
the pace that the industry is growing at, it’s not impossible, says his
brother Naveen Maheshwari, also a director at Allen.</div>
<div class="articleBody">
In last couple of years, some unhealthy practices have crept into the
industry. “Till some years ago, some institutes poached teachers by
offering them double the money; this year, there are reports of some
institutes poaching students, too,” says business development honcho of
an institute, not willing to be named. A cram schoolteacher, on an
average, earns Rs2.5 million per annum but after poaching began, some
started getting as high as Rs10 million. As a matter of fact, some
teachers at an institute are even earning Rs20 million a year.</div>
<div class="articleBody">
“The industry’s growing bigger by the day and some people are want to
get the lion’s share,” says the BD honcho. Others talk in hushed tones
about some top rankers being imported from other cities and now Kota
institutes claim they attended their classroom programme.</div>
<div class="articleBody">
However, despite these one-off blots, Kota largely remains a factory
where toppers are produced. It is, therefore, no wonder that teachers
here become overnight celebrities. Students paste their pictures in
rooms, and they are all over the city walls, too. “Some students equate
me to Mahatma Gandhi, Swami Vivekanand and A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and even
ask for autographs,” says Jivanjyoti Agarwal, who is a senior faculty of
Mathematics at Allen Kota centre. “I feel proud to be a teacher.”</div>
<div class="articleBody">
Sumit Yadav, a Resonance alumnus, who has passed out this year from IIT
Kharagpur, remembers “CSS sir” talking about his IIT Bombay days and
telling students in his class: IITians banaye nahi jate, hote hain.
(IITians are not made, they are born that way).</div>

A story from Bharat Jakati.......<br />
<br />
This was during Mood Indigo 2008, the cultural festival of IIT Bombay. I
was standing outside the main gate, on the other side of the road. Next
to me were two very good looking girls. One of them looked at me, then
turned to the other girl, and whispered something; both of them glanced back at me, smirked and turned away.<br /><br />The
traffic signal, which had been red all this while, turned green and
they started walking towards the gate. I followed suit. They glanced
back at me with derision as we entered the gate, as if to suggest that I
had followed them without knowing where I was headed. The guard at the
main gate asked them where they were going and who they were. They
flashed - as in, their college I cards - and told the guard that they
were going back to their contingent. The guard then asked me for
identification. I calmly said, "Student", produced my IIT B I card,
simply walked in (you can do that at the IIT B Main Gate; in fact,
IITians can do that even at Mordor) and stood some distance away from
the girls, waiting for a bus to carry me inside. A really strange thing
happened then.<br /><br />The girls immediately came up to me and apologized
for their misconduct. They said that they did not know I was an IITian
and that I must accept their apology. Somewhat hurt by their behaviour
at the signal, I said, "Whatever", at which they started insisting that
we exchange numbers and hang out later. Well, I did that. We caught up
later in the evening, attended the concert together, went out for booze
and came back; I sneaked them into my hostel and we had some, er, <i>fun.</i><br /><br />But I was all very nonchalant all this while, because this was part of every day life for me, as a student of an IIT. <i>As IITians, we're entitled to such favours from good looking girls.</i>
I did not have to woo them or anything; once we were on the other side
of the gate, they were just falling all over me. It didn't matter that I
was quite rude to them; it did not matter that I was wearing dirty, unwashed clothes; heck, it did not even matter that I had to clear my
bed of unwashed undies, lizard poop, cobwebs and a few spiders that were
lurking in the corner. Ever since they'd learnt that I was an IITian,
all they wanted was me. <br /><br />Once you're an IITian, you can be
terrible in every other respect, and girls will still go gaga over you.
Oh yes! To quote a famous band, Nothing Else Matters.<br /><br />Also, before you fantasize about the endless possibilities this opens up, say hi to a very close friend of mine - Sarcasm.<br />
<hr class="qtext_hr" />
Just so that this is not blocked for not answering the question,<b> the answer is NO. </b>Being
an IITian does give you an edge in terms of smartness, at least as far
as how you're perceived, but you have to follow the protocol: be nice to
the girl, be presentable, engage in conversation, listen to her, give
her time and so on. <br /><br />But since I'm sure everyone knows that, and this is just a troll question, I think the first part of my answer is more relevant.</div>

A Story from Nitish Krishna...hear it from him....<br />
<br />
So this is a story from my first year (2008) . I was living in Diamond and around
the time of the first semester exams we had had pretty heavy rains for
about 4 or 5 days. The grounds in front of Diamond and around campus
were completely covered with water and unfortunately for the cows in
campus, this took away their primary source of food. <br /><br />So after
the Chemistry exam, one of my absent minded friends returned to his
room. I call him absent-minded because he had forgotten to lock his room
door before going to the exam hall. When he returned after his exam he
casually looked around the room : Bed, Cupboard, Cow, Clothes,
Books....wait what?<br /><br />Yes, there was a huge cow sitting peacefully
in a corner of his room. Not only that, it was munching away at a PW
Atkins Physical Chemistry text book. Now this cow actually knew how to
eat a book, it was eating it page by page starting from the cover. It
had gotten to page number 176 by the time my friend got back. Shortly, a
crowd had gathered as my friend tried to get the cow to leave.
Unfortunately it refused to budge, even after being poked with a broom.
It then switched to eating Richard Feynman's Lectures on Physics and
that was the last straw for my friend (The set of 3 books was about 2500
rupees - even a five star meal isn't that expensive). So someone
grabbed the tail of this cow and it ran out of the room and out of the
hostel. <br /><br />Few days later we even spotted white colored cow dung in
front of the hostel office. Apparently the cow found Chemistry and
Physics much easier to digest than we did :P<br />
<br />
For those of you who do not believe me, we luckily have photographic proof :<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1X0D3EaCRdMR9rBtt7nHQnZ6Xj-1Bpa9CpkAK9Es6_wzDzcaZImS12yNC0KukoABpqnxbAQtLtjYoNrdzdYLepVPQ9Mhj_U3bRoo6hK6XC3N1zOzmqLx3zi2BRl-J-CcXHRtxnPLnRdLj/s1600/CBSE-logo.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1X0D3EaCRdMR9rBtt7nHQnZ6Xj-1Bpa9CpkAK9Es6_wzDzcaZImS12yNC0KukoABpqnxbAQtLtjYoNrdzdYLepVPQ9Mhj_U3bRoo6hK6XC3N1zOzmqLx3zi2BRl-J-CcXHRtxnPLnRdLj/s1600/CBSE-logo.jpg" width="289" /></a></div>
<br />
It’s controversial. The Central Board of Secondary Education
or CBSE has issued a circular which is asking schools affiliated to it
to provide mobile numbers and e-mail address to students from class IX
to XII. This circular has created topsy-turvy in all the CBSE schools!<br />
<br />
CBSE said the move is aimed at making use of information communication
technology tools to improve communication among its various
stakeholders, but some organisations have objected to the circular very
strongly.<br />
<br />
The schools were asked to submit the information by August 25th for the same.<br />
A few schools in Rajasthan, feared that personal information of students
could be used for non-academic activities, and thus they objected the
order.<br />
<br />
CBSE has put forth, in the same circular that having mobile number and
email details will not only facilitate the candidate to have timely and
latest updates, but also will help the board also in advance planning
and estimation relating to examinations.<br />
<br />
Official sources in the Human Resource and Development or HRD
Ministry said that this information would be kept strictly confidential,
and nobody has to fear about its leakage or misuse.<br />
The controversy has come up in the run up to the Prime Minister’s live
address to students on Teacher’s Day. Thus, here the HRD Ministry has
embarked on an unprecedented exercise to make the programme a success.<br />
<br />
CBSE has requested schools to make arrangements to amass all the
students so that they may view the Prime Minister’s address directly and
without a miss.<br />
<br />
It said suitable arrangements will need to be made to enable children stay from 2.30 pm to 5.00 pm in the school on September 5th, 2013 i.e. the Teacher’s Day.<br />
A report on the arrangements made by your school and the number of
students who are likely to be covered may be sent to the board, it
requested by the schools.<br />

of a clash between students of third and fourth year. The main reason of
this fight is still ascertain. An enquiry committee will submit a

Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are working on a plan to take
Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Advanced online by the session 2016-17. On
August 23, at a meeting of the Joint Admission Board of IITs, in New
Delhi, it has been agreed that it should go online completely from 2016.<br />
<br />
Almost
1.5 lakh students are shortlisted for JEE Advanced after taking the JEE
Main test. JEE Mains is held for candidates, who wish to seek
admissions to (National Institutes of Technology) NITs and other
engineering colleges and also sets the eligibility criterion for JEE
Advanced.<br />
<br />
JEE Mains has already gone online, partly. Not only the
IITs are planning to take the examination online but are also looking
at ways to replace the format of the exam, too. At present, they have a
Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) format. The IITs are trying to come up
with a pattern, which is objective in nature but lets a student attempt a
problem solving exercise and then reach a conclusion i.e. an answer.<br />
<br />
This
process is being tried to implement because many feel that the existing
MCQ style is allowing some students score high just by guessing the
correct answer rather than applying their minds.<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdOVniD41uJVltT0yBajbII_pFVNgAu_Lp5sSm6hOWeH8p6s77iwEMGg91f-_aWbz_ojKlLhb3rEllo8b_wqo_F8pDjKgE2gsf1oDkJO7SVVU0Ae7VFuNl4Tmd7Y53fZeuVhFEd4ONO446/s1600/learn+hard+formulas.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdOVniD41uJVltT0yBajbII_pFVNgAu_Lp5sSm6hOWeH8p6s77iwEMGg91f-_aWbz_ojKlLhb3rEllo8b_wqo_F8pDjKgE2gsf1oDkJO7SVVU0Ae7VFuNl4Tmd7Y53fZeuVhFEd4ONO446/s1600/learn+hard+formulas.jpg" height="301" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Equations… formulae… huh, then name itself gives many of us nausea! I
know some classmates of mine, who would just skip their lunchtime and
prepare these formulae and try to memorize them. Then there were some
who would try to learn them by heart! But does that help, learning
formulae by heart? Unfortunately that is just not an option as formulae
are about application and not just being reproduced on the paper!<br />
So what can be done to memorize all the formulas in the course easily
without giving ourselves a panic attack? We have got you some tips and
tricks for you. Caution: some tricks will look silly, but they are all
worth a try!<br />
<ol>
<li>First things first. Be attentive when the formulas are being taught
in school or coaching classes. Anything new is worth the attention so it
is better to learn it while it is still nascent and not related with
some bad practice memories!</li>
<li>This is the old school method. Read the formula again and again till
it gets imprinted in your mind and then reproduce it on a piece of
paper. Read, learn, write and follow this method for each formula again
and again till you are confident!</li>
<li>Understand the formation of the equations, units, or signs in the
formulae. If you observe and analyse by dividing it in sets as the
formula progresses to the answer, then you will be able to understand
the formula deeply. You will not have to do the mugging.</li>
<li>Associative learning. Many students feel that this trick really
works. Relate the formula with something that you can easily remember.
As an example, even in complex and long formulas, associate the numbers,
variables and operands, to certain elements that are non-mathematical.
Like the alphabets can stand as names of animals, flowers, food and
toys. Indeed, anything that you like.</li>
<li>Mentally recollect the formula. Now imagine an empty classroom in
your head with a clean black board. Now slowly start writing the formula
on it. You can write and erase it, all in your head. And once you think
you have got the formula right, cross check it with your book!</li>
<li>You must have heard about “in your sight, on your mind”. Do exactly
the same with your formulae! Make small notes, post-its and stick them
up at several places in your room. Even other areas which you frequently
visit. Hmmm, maybe kitchen, TV room, or well, bathroom mirror!! J</li>
<li>Never sleep over on formulas. They will just not sneak into your
mind during your sleep. That is a bad, bad way. You are not at your
highest concentration levels at the time of sleep. Rather, it would be
better to get up and do them first thing in the morning, with a fresh
mind.</li>
<li>Once you think you are a little familiar with the formula, try
playing with it. Pick up a random problem and try and apply it in the
same. You might be able to solve it, or you might be able to formulate
some basic steps, but at least you would know where you stand. Always
remember that the magic of learning formula is in the application of it.</li>
<li>Make music out of it. Read your formulae aloud in a rhythm, as in a
rhyme! Now this sounds crazy right? Well, don’t go by the look of it. It
really works for the students who are driven by music! Do believe me?
Try out once for yourself!</li>
<li>Never study formulae or practice sums related to them on an empty
stomach. Ah, that would be a third degree torture for you. Keep yourself
well-fed, be in a content, happy state of mind and go aim at it! That
is the way to go about learning the formulae!</li>
</ol>
Don’t ever think that you can’t do it. These are just building
blocks, and if understood properly, they will make your journey to JEE
much simpler!</div>
